About Dr. Caruana

 

After obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree (Cum Laude) from University of Buffalo, Salvatore Caruana was trained in medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, graduating in 1989. His general surgery training at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center was followed by the residency in Otolaryngology at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He thereafter completed a two and one half year fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Caruana's peer-reviewed research has included work centering upon the biological nature of several head and neck cancers and on the role of viruses in malignancies of the paranasal sinuses. He has extensive clinical experience in the treatment of tumors of the mouth, pharynx, larynx and sinuses, and of the salivary glands.

 


Of additional note is his reputation as an endoscopic sinus surgeon, and as a pioneer in laser microsurgery for pharyngeal and laryngeal cancers.
